A Bat on the stoop?

I was coming in my back door just after dusk. I had been running errands all afternoon and was just focused on getting into the house and relaxing. That is until I grabbed the screen door handle and suddenly had erratic flopping wings around my head. Now I’ve lived here for several years and had all manner of bugs, and one time even a spring peeper, by the door, but this was the first time I was greeted by a panicked bat! So… Of course I had to look into this a bit deeper.

It is quite interesting all the mythology surrounding bats, and quite frankly, much of it contradictory; from dragons and devils to harbingers of growth and New Ideas.

For me some of the highlights of Bat energy are

  • Night time
  • The subconscious
  • Eating tons of insects
  • Clearing irritating beings from the immediate environment (goes with eating TONS of insects)
  • Hearing and eyesight

Some thoughts from authors I admire on Bat energy
Includes, but not limited to, Ted Andrews, Dr. Steven Farmer, Gerry Starnes, M.Ed.,

  • Transition
  • Initation, New beginnings
  • Brings promise and power after the changes.
  • Associated with rebirth, transition and change on a personal and spiritual level.
  • Be Open to changes that are past due.
  • Letting go of habits and attachments that no longer serve you
  • The ordeal that you’re facing is a necessary part of your transformation and an initiation into a much more spiritually directed life.
  • Need to face/transform our fears.
  • Pollinates New Ideas
  • Guides

What does this all have to do with anything?

I can certainly see where some of these points apply to my life, and I hope it sheds some light on yours as well.

Going into the holiday season, and some temporary changes at work had instilled some fear. Can we say too much connection to, or fear of, outcome? As it turned out most of my fears never manifested, although, I must confess to making a conscious effort to focus on creating positive outcomes where my fears were strongest. I had to do this because I slowly started to realize that I was becoming the annoying insect in the situation.

I would be remiss in not pointing out the prospects provided by the New Year. This is an excellent time to face our fears of changes that really have a better chance of initiating us into better options and opportunities than the opposite.

Where do you fear to grow? What initiations have you been avoiding? With the beginnings of the New Year we all have greatness awaiting us if we but open ourselves to new beginnings, transitions and initiations that we have been fearing and avoiding.

Regards,
Rev. Cynthia
