A couple months ago I was visited several times by a
little downy woodpecker. It was just outside the window by my desk. It was perched on the old dried up blossom stem of a yucca plant that I had not cleaned up yet. Of course my first thought was, after I figured out what that strange tapping sound was, how interesting! But after it returned a few times I got spirit’s hint that there was a message here for me!
For me some of the highlights of Woodpecker energy are:
- Drumming/rattling
- Following the beat of your own drum
- Discrimination
- Changes in the weather
- Persistence
Some thoughts from authors I admire on Woodpecker energy
- Indicates that the foundation is there. It is now safe to follow your own rhythm
- Digging in, especially with the head, reflects increasing analysis
- A storm is brewing, either literally or metaphorically
Woodpecker is a numerology number 7; 7 is the seeker, the thinker, the searcher of Truth (notice the capital “T”). The 7 doesn’t take anything at face value — it is always trying to understand the underlying, hidden truths. The 7 knows that nothing is exactly as it seems and that reality is often hidden behind illusions. More info on 7
My first assumption was that it was referring to being too much in my head, overthinking things or even beating my head against the proverbial wall. While these are true meanings for woodpecker, still the woodpecker returned. It was time to dig a bit deeper.
I had laid out my plans to start my own, first, Shamanic Healing Drum Circle and was worried that I was really up to the task. Everywhere I looked for more information on my little friend the first thing that came up was… drumming! While I actually was a bit too much in my head and overthinking my new adventure, spirit wanted me to know exactly where I was overthinking and needed to trust its guidance!
If you are looking for guidance on your plans, and want to confirm rhythm/timing… call on woodpecker for assistance.
