I have been having a bit of a battle of wits with a few raccoons in my neighborhood lately. They can be a crafty lot, and have outwitted me a couple of times. Which brings me to my initial take on the energies represented by our “Friends” the raccoons.
Firstly, and, for me, most importantly, Raccoon epitomizes the old saying “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Most of the time when we see them, it is around a trash barrel or dumpster looking for goodies to feast on, that we humans can no longer enjoy and stay healthy. Similar to human trash pickers and dumpster divers looking for household odds and ends that might be rescued and given a second life, usually for profit. Honestly, I admire these industrious types.
The second thing that comes up is that they can be incredibly smart and crafty, as well as willing to exploit any weaknesses it finds. This is a thing that can be good or … not.
One thing attributed to raccoons, that is inaccurate, is that of cleanliness, because it washes its food. The reality is that its wetting its pause to enhance the sense of touch in its paws to more accurately identify what it is planning on eating.
What some other energy people ascribe to raccoon:
Traits:
- Resourcefulness
- Resources available
- Intelligence
- Communication
- Adaptable
- Curious
- Dexterity
- Time to be curious instead goal oriented
Some Native Americans tell stories of the Raccoon as a trickster and warn of acting like a raccoon that will do whatever it takes to get what they want. Which brings us to that pesky shadow side energies:
Shadow:
Being Fussy, Sneaky, Snooping, a Nuisance, Over-reacting, or using Disguise to fool others.
So if Raccoon has come to speak to you, is time to embrace recycling or upcycling the things around you? If so, embrace that ingenious, crafty side of yourself, Perhaps it can help with a bit of cleanup.
Just make sure you are not trying to disguise things as better, or worse, than they are or that you are anything more or less than YOU are! And, perhaps most important of all, don’t sneak or snoop into what is not your concern. Being a nuisance is never a good look.
